Hi, welcome to String Revolution. I'm Léan, I live in Dublin with my husband and two little boys, and I am a dangerous stringy subversive.
My job is to radiate my creative truth, and to help you radiate yours. I create, without exception, every day. I write here when I have something to say.

(learn more about me).

Hibernia, and a Small Hiatus

Snow lantern in our garden, December 2010

We’re a bit engulfed around these parts at the moment.

That’s a snow lantern up there: a little cairn of snowballs with a candle lighting inside. I made it in our garden last week during the thickest snowfall we’ve seen here in decades. (In the winter of 1982, the snow came up over my wellies. It didn’t do that last week, although I concede that there may have been a question of scale at work…)

Other engulfy things

  1. A vomitous, chesty, and feverish Feaster. He was sick on his (third) birthday, which is just cosmically wrong.
  2. A chesty and listless (though thankfully neither vomitous nor feverish) Oyster.
  3. A not-quite-ill-enough-to-stay-in-bed self.
  4. Both boys and me being cooped up for days on end by the snow and the sickness. Cabin fever, my friends, ain’t in it. The whining. MY GOD, the whining! (And the boys were almost as bad, ahahaha …you think I’m joking, don’t you?)
  5. Ireland’s total economic collapse – from which, privilege-bunnies that we are, we are so far largely shielded; the political fury is engrossing, though.
  6. The onrushing juggernaut that is the Festive Season.

Result

Lots of things that I thought would be happening here at String Revolution in late November or early December … well … haven’t been.

I haven’t finished my works in progress.

I haven’t launched either of my shiny new services.

I haven’t edited the video footage I’ve recorded, or published the audio, or put together the tutorial I have in mind.

In fact, apart from publishing my two Christmas gift patterns (plug, plug), I’ve done barely anything at all, blogwise.

And you know what?

I’m fine with that.

Astonishingly, even my inner critic and all my various monsters think it’s OK. “Everybody partied,” they say. “We’re here now.”

(I’m not at all sure I approve of their inaccurate use of dubious Fianna Fáil catchphrases, but what can you do?)

Official Hiatus

So I’m going to take a little time to regroup. Realign my ducks. Pick myself up, dust myself off, and start all over again.

And since (naturally, being me) I’ve been stressing about not writing here, I’ve decided to unhook all that and make it official:

I’m taking a break.

It might be just a few days. It might be a week, or possibly more.

When I’m ready, I’ll be back.

See you on the other side!
